Default VIN numbers on Frame?

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me exactly where I can locate the vin number on the frame of a 69 c3 vette? I heard they are above the rear axle upside down (or something to that effect).

Where exactly are my looking and what position fo I need to get in to see it. The frame is dirty and probably has some surface rust on it as it has been driven all of its life and never restored. So, I need a pretty narrowed down location that I can scuff down to see it.

I just want to verify that the vin in the winshield matches the frame, because it looks like someone tried at one time to mess with the vin plate rivits.

Thanks for the help,
Greg.

Supposed to be on top of the frame in the left rear wheel opening. Will need to clean the frame with a soft brush and lacquer thinner and maybe need a small mirror to read. This is where it should be; many have said they have never seen it here nor have I.

On the VIN plate, if there is any evidence of tampering, you will need to pull the windshield, order the correct rosette rivets, and replace immediately. Any law enforcement officer who suspects VIN tampering can impound the car.

Thank you so much. That will help me locate it and check. I have a coupe also.

Thanks again, Greg.

There are also some photos in the Photo Library on the '70 Registry website under Resources / Photo Library / Chassis. Looks like it's in the same place as 69.

It is also located on the drivers side roughly in line with the seat.

So, there are multiple places the number could be on a 69 coupe? I would have thought it would be stampled in one place on every 69.

Is this right?

Thanks,
Greg.

take the left rear wheel off, clean the top of the frame rail, should be right below the body mount. As stated small mirror will help to see them, but mostly need to clean of the road grime.

that is where I found the frame VIN on my 71.

The posters have directed you to the right area. On my 69 vert one is located frame top just before the rear mount, and the other is by the door. It is stamped in two locations. If you need it I can email you a picture of the rear VIN.

Does anyone know if these locations apply to a 71 convertible too?

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but just managed to find the frame partial VIN on my '69 using the info here.

So thanks!

Same for 69 or 71 and most C3 corvettes. Here is photo of location and the machine that stamped it at the other location.
