what should I set the timing @ for my 383?

Hello, I just went through the same thing. The terminology can be confusing. My hi po 355 i set at 36 degrees at 2,500 rpm with the vacume advance line off and pluged. I then connected it up and it gave me an additional 14 degrees of vacume thus giving me a total of 50 degrees of vacume. Do not exceed 52 degrees total timing. It will cause detonation.
