Default Window Regulator Motor

Hey there,

I have two problems with my driver's side window motor. This is on a '79model.

- The motor is very weak and as you know the new ones are pretty pricey. I have cleaned on the brushes and contacts hoping it would bring new life to the motor but it didn't. What exactly would be bad that is causing it to be weak? Is there a rebuild kit out there I can look at getting to keep the cost doen?

- Since I have re-installed the motor, the gear is slipping on the regulator teeth as if there is an adjustment off somewhere. Can someone point me to how I can snug up the mesh of the gear and the regulator? I didn't see anywhere I can make adjustments. It did not slip before I removed the motor.

Thanks!

Yes, the spring seems to be very tight. I didn't remove the spring from the regulator so it is in the same state as before I removed the motor. I did remove the entire window and all but kept the spring intact.

Do you think the motor itself is okay? The brushes looked very good. Things were just a bit dusty but all looked good.

Default Clean & lube the rollers

I would suggest that you pull the glass and clean and relube all the tracks and rollers or even replace the rollers. That grease gets pretty stiff after 25 years. Worked for me.

Maybe...did you put the spring in properly. It suppose to be unwound when in the up position and wound tight in the down. the spring assists the motor only in the lifting action.

Clean and relube the tracks, replace the rollers and line them up correctly and that will wake it up pretty good. Also make sure he grounds are solid, the window gets its ground thru the door itself.

6' is correcto there, the thing about cleaning those tracks is...take them outta the door, and lay them out overnight in a gasoline filled tray to soak...do both pass and driver's sides, may as well....

I found nothing else to loosen that damn glue/grease/dried elephant snot off that steel....

Thanks for all the tips! At worked on it for a long while last night. The motor is strong enough now, it was in a bind in the way I mounted it. The bracket that helps to support the shaft was not aligned properly.

Thanks again for all your advice!!
