I am installing a Tremec 5 speed in my car and am not sure if I should go with the billet steel 33 lb unit or the 15 lb light weight unit. Gene at Keisler has recommended the billet fly as best for around town driving.

Any advice?
My opinion: If this is strictly a street vehicle, and lots of city driving, I'll agree with Gene. A heavier flywheel is much easier to use when taking off from a stoplight.
OTOH, if you do much performance driving (road course stuff), a lighter flywheel is the way to go. (Plus, a quick revving engine just sounds nice. )
i agree that a heavier flywheel is a nice thing for stop and go but in my 70 lt-1 with 485hp the super light flywheel really let the motor spool up very quickly. once you have that, its hard to go back to heavy. you learn how to handle it quickly. a close analogy is having a 3000 stall converter. the motor likes it alot.

what would be the best type/brand lightweight flywheel? i have a 406ci..
GM has both necessary for internally balanced and externally balanced engines. 400 ci engines are external though. Approximately $200.00 for either one.
I asked that question a little while ago. Here is the thread on the answers. I did purchase a 12.5 aluminum wheel and will have it in this winter. I am running a 30+ pounder right now. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...minum+flywheel

400ci are only guaranteed to be externally balanced with a stock crank. I've got an internal-balance forged crank in my garage, wating for my 412 build.
I have the GM nodular iron on my LT-1, and I can't say I've noticed any real difference in the launch quality from the heavy flywheel to the light one.
I run a 15lb aluminum one behind my 468 and the difference in how fast it revs is noticable. I don't think I'd go back to a heavy flywheel unless strength became an issue.
