Well, my original shifter on my '70 Muncie 4-speed has finally decided to bite the dust after 36 years, so what's everyone's thoughts and/or recommendations for a new shifter: 1)refurbish the original, 2) purchase a stock replacement, or 3) purchase an aftermarket upgraded shifter (like the Hurst Competition Plus shifter).
I like my car to handle with "upgraded" performance (i.e., better than stock), even though I very rarely go to the track and more-or-less use my car for cruising.
I put the hurst i my 71. The throw was shorter and the pattern was tighter. The first time I shifted out of first, I went to fourth. Had to get used to the lack of slop in the shifter. It's a very high quality American made unit. I buy American whenever I can, I hate taiwan junk.
