Well guys I found a 427 from a 69 Stingray ( not tri-power ) that burns oil, the guy only wants $200 for it so I am very much considering it. My question is, if I can get it and a nice transmission would the 427 fit in a 75 stingray?
I'd like to tell you no...and then ask where this engine could be found. :D Honestly, anything will fit with enough work. I'm sure someone can tell you what needs to be changed, but I would imagine you'd need new engine mounts and trans mount. Also, you may need a new radiator, fan shroud, and other various pieces. The only other thing I can think of now is the location of the the shifter in the console if it's a manual. Good luck and let me know if you pass on that engine.
If it's a tall deck "truck" 427 you may have some difficulty with brackets and possibly hood clearance. Also, it is impossible to tell if it's actually a 427 (or 396,402 454,etc) without some more info. What #'s can you find on the rear of the block by the bellhousing (driver's side on top) and the front (passenger side) "pad" where the block attaches to the head. If you give us the #'s we can i.d. your block at least.
Yes, it's possible to put it in there.
Couple of changes are necessary, but if you search the archives, there are plenty of threads on the subject. Biggest problem is typically emssions. However, and this is serious: I'd take it if you don't want it (and the shipping isn't too bad). I always wanted a replacement for my rebuild #s matching engine, so I can let the original rest in the basement and build a powerhouse to drive around with!
I installed a 454 in my 75 and it fit without any problems. The original motor mounts, transmission and ignition work fine. I even used the power steering and alternator and for a few years the stock 2 core rad. Headers fit effortlessly. I didn't have AC so no problem. The power brake booster can cause problems with tall valve covers.
Go for it.

It supposedly came out of a 69 Vette. I was hoping to find the numbers to ID the block as an original 427 before I go look at the engine ( its a 200 mile drive from my place ) so can someone tell me the numbers to look for on the block?
I'll send you a check via next day service for $750.00. This offer is obviously pending confirnation that it is the real thing. And in case your wondering, yes this is a serious offer.
I have 427 engine I have recently decided not to use in my '69. If you are interested email me at gdanders@wnol.net. I was looking to get $1200 for everything I have but can be negotiable.
About 1 1/2 years ago, I paid $800. for a '69 block only, casting #3963512 with 4 bolt mains, standard bore (needing to be bored .030 over). At the time, I thought this was a good deal considering what was out there at the time.
