Default Three different early hood latches?

I'm getting ready to put what is supposed to be a 1968 hood back on my 1968 and pulled out my box of latches that go on the underside of the hood. I'm OK on the right side, but have three slightly different left latches. I have a '71 so found that the one with the 90 degree dogleg on the relay latch is for a late '69 through 76. The other two do not have the dog leg. One has a spring while the other has no provision for a spring. Which one goes on my '68, and what is the other one for? Thanks in Advance,
John

Got the '68 AIM? The original part number will be listed in the AIM. If the latches changed during the '68 production run, there should also be a revision note on the AIM page, usually listing what the previous part number was and when the drawing was changed. The revision date for the AIM drawing helps understand things, but the revised latch could have already been installed on the assembly line before the AIM page date.

I can check the '68 AIM tonight.

'68 AIM lists 3948141 and -42 for the latches. Prior to 4/4/68, they were 3922201 and -02. Hopefully there's a part number stamped on yours.

I don't believe there is a part number on either female latch piece. However, there should be a Mfg logo on the backside.

I have a early build '69 coupe ... the system my car has is a latch on the passenger side with a spring. This spring provides both driver and passenger side tension. The driver side has provision for a spring, but no spring attached. Later years driver side did not have the spring holes provision (this may be late 69-76)

Driver side also has the dogleg (90 degree) which is the part that will catch when the hood release cable is pulled. I cannot speak to a latch without the dogleg - but the dogleg is integral to the operating of this system.

I also have the white sheath with 2 clips in the hood.

The NCRS manual mentions a spring on the passenger side, but no mention for the driver side.

If you have a later '68, this is probably the sytem you should have. An early '68 used a different cable/sheath, and a different numbered latch ... but I don't know what made that different from the later latch.

If you have any pictures of the 3 driver side latches, that may help ... and the date of your car ??

John, the bolt pattern is unique to '68 and early '69. Later latches will not bolt on. The male latch is cone shaped on the early cars and pyramid shaped on later '69's an up cars.

My early 68 (November 67 build) has springs on both latches. Not really sure about the dog leg ( I don't have a later latch to compare it to).

Hopefully this link will work to show the three different latches I have. This is my first attempt at putting in a picture!
Thanks,
John

The latch on the left is from an early 68. Not sure about the rest.

My early 68 latch looks like the one on the left also.

Well, the latchs on my '71 and '72 both look like the one on the left as well. I wonder what the other two were for if the one on the left was used from early '68 through 72?

John ...
curious as to what type cable you have to get that left latch to work?

My early '69 L46(Nov 68) has the middle latch, along with the white-sheath cable and multi-hole pin on the driver side. This is the same latch as pictured in the '68 and '69 AIM (UPC 11-13, A7 & A8), and described in the NCRS manual ... I also understand the latch on the right is late '69 and into the 70's, also using the multi-hole pin on a black-sheath cable.

NCRS manual also describes the early '68 as having a "dark spiral-wound metal sheath resembling the hood release sheath". Do you have a picture of your cable ??

this is exactly what my system looks like ...
