Default Tranny Question

Hi All
Just wanted to find out what tranny I have in my 78 vette as I bought a kick down cable from member Jimbo but I don't see where it goes?My tranny on the pass. side has the air controled accurator and the 2 cooling lines. On the driver side from what I can see with car jacked up as far as I can get it (and I am a porker 280# and disabled so hard to see real good) but what I do see is the speedo. cable then in front of that it looks like a cable with a spring and a rubber boot on it I am thinking it is the shifter cable I don't know for sure this is where I need your in put. It is the L82 1978 350 ci. Auto. I think stock but don't really know for sure by this description can anyone tell me what tranny. I have and where the kick down cable goes? As it did not have one on it when I bought it. I put a new carb. Holly on it the origonal carb had some kind of metal little bar on the carb. and was wondering if this was acting as a kick down mech. Well this should have you-all scratching your heads for a while but let me know if you can come up with something on this.
Thank's in advance

I'll give you a bump. I replaced my stock tranny a while back and can't remember a whole lot about the kick down linkage. Anyways, most probably your tranny is a TH350. The kick-down cable should be attached to the same linkage mechanism plate as the throttle cable on the Holley but just on the opposite side such that when the throttle cable pulls the carb open it also pulls the kick-down cable out. Summit has an adapter plate that mounts to the Holly and will accept the stock throttle cable and kick-down cables. You might need to fab a little on the Holley linkage plate to get the proper angles of the kick-down just right. Not sure I'm descriptive enough but hope this helps somewhat.

It's a TH-350 (if it's stock). Here's the 78' AIM page that shows the cable, hope it helps

Hey Dennis,
did you get it handled yet? The pic above is exactly what you should have. Let me know if you need more help, or want to return the cable. Hope we can help.
Jimbo.

If you want to verify that it's a TH350 Tranny, look at the pan. TH350s are a square with one corner cut off.

By the way, if it is a TH350, the kickdown cable isn't required to run, it just helps when you floor it from part throttle & want it to drop down a gear (but you probably already knew that).

Have fun!

Hey Jimbo.

Still can't figure the dumb thing out. I know it did not have a cable on it when I bought it just thought I would try and put one on it. Thanks for the cable hope you got ck. in mail ok. The thing looks great new like you said. I put new carb on and I bought a chrome intake and a billet dist. and chrome valve covers and chrome brake booster and master cylnder you can see the look I am going for CHROME And I wanna get a chrome water pump, I also put on a chrome alt. as old one quit working. Bought a water pump new on E-Bay thought it was chrome but dummy me didn't read the ad right and it is just a standard water pume so if ya know anyone that wants to buy one let me know I will sell it for what I paid for it + shipping. it is the long water pump. Just want to get the car running good and looking good. It really is in good shape bought it from origional owner with less than 70,000 mi on it but it sat a lot so needs new stuff(at least thats what I tell my wife) So will work on it as I can nice forum here all guys seem to try and help that is great as I also have a 1960 T-Bird and that forum dosen't seem to be so friendly oh well Talk to ya later

If the trans in the car has the vacuum modulator on the side towards the front passenger side , below where the cooler lines connect to the trans you have a T-400, not a T-350.
The T-400 does not use a cable for passing detent, it is controled electrically from a switch on the gas pedel.
The t-400 is not stock for the car they were used till 75 and then the T-350 replaced it.
The T-350 does use a cable on it.
The pan on a T-350 is square with the right rear ear cut off and the pan on a T-400 is shaped sort of like a kidney, with a point towards the back.
The electric hook-up is on the driver side on the T-400 .
