Upgrading to a big block. Need header suggestions.
I was wondering what headers u big block guys are running. The ceramic coated super comps are pricey but I don't want rusted headers in a month. What do yall think.
Do it once, do it right. You can't go wrong with Hookers or ceramic coating and the headers will look nice for a whole heck of a lot longer. I prefer rear exit exhaust. Were you planning on side pipes?
I'm running Hooker header side pipes (2 1/8" primaries into 4" collectors). Definitely too big for my 468 but that's the only size the header side pipes come in.
You might want to go with Hooker Side pipes as it gives more ground clearance plus they make working on the car easier as well as reduced heat felt on the feet lol.
You can go with normal Hooker headers but you will hit the flanges all of the time. You could cut off the flanges and have a pipe welded to it with a wrap around connector instead to help with the ground clearance issue.
I agree with Shark Racer. Spend the $$$ on heat coating- it's a good investment. I had Jet Hot coat my Hedmans 3-4 years ago & they still look as good as when I got them back. Hooker makes a nice header but beware of ground clearance. I think primary tube size on the regular Hookers is 1 7/8"- Hedmans have 2". I prefer rear exit too. Sidepipes sound awesome but can be pretty loud & may be restrictive unless you buy Spiral baffles to allow better flow.
I have Hooker Super Comps (1-7/8" primaries into 4" collectors). They did not fit well at all. They are on and functional, but I had to dent one primary for clearance and there is no chance of getting the rocker panels back on. I'll obviously be pulling these off in the future and going to something else. They do look and sound great though.
