Default F!!! Distributor!

F!!! I've been waiting on a Mallory distributor (MAA-4264511) since late October as it's been on backorder. Got a call again today that the backorder fill date has been postponed again for another month!!!
I'm not waiting any longer and going a different route.

I don't want to go back to points! Now way.
What do you guys recommend for a decent price, vacuum advance, mecahical tach drive for a built 350??
I priced out MSD and really cannot afford as the set-up rings in around the $600 range!

BTW - Mallory Customer Service advised the MAA-4264511 has been on backorder since late June. Wish they and Summit woudl have told me this!

Everything but the tach drive, while you are waiting: Any chevy HEI distributor I think pre-1979, millions of them in salvage yards all around the world, shouldn't be more than $25. Big block, small block, all the same.

The stock HEI unit is good enough for any build engine, being used on my 435 hp 427.

I would guess they are having problems with that distributor. Shouldn't have to wait that long. My MSD works flawlessly.

Unless the distributor itself is worn out, I bought a Pertronix that fits into existing distributor and works great coupled with the Pertronix Ignitor II coil. Everything looks stock from the outside if that concerns you.

I just bought an HEI Tach drive distributor from Speed City Motors. They had it listed on SleezeBay for a buy it now price of $250. I submitted an offer for $125 and they came back with $175. I then offered $155 and they took it. It came in last week and looks pretty good. It came complete ready to stab in the engine and also had different spring weights in case you wanted to change them out. Check it out here:

I bought a MSD HEI pro billet for my pontiac about 8yrs ago. I don't think I paid over $300, even though that was a few years back, but then again the pontiac stuff usually costs a little more. Have been very pleased w/it since, very reliable piece. Hope it helps.

Unless you don't have room for large, coil-in-cap HEI ... Suggest you look around for a Mallory 7564501 (less coil) or 7564501C (with coil) ... either are very nice pieces ... hi-po but no box needed ... ALL USA MADE in Nevada!

Read this first:

less coil about $310 when available:

with coil about $350 when available:

Good tips Jackson! Summit already sent me the coil from my original order months ago - MAA-29219 . Can I use that coil (Mallory 7564501) with the Mallory 7564501 HEI?

Probably. From the V8buick link above ... you need to read part #10 regarding remote coil adapter. Then ask Mallory if your coil is a good match (ohms & volts) to their 7564501 dist.

Frankly, I would not ... I'd use a coil-in-cap setup and reduce clutter ... fleabay that canister coil or (if unused) return to summit.

Heck, I've got one of those remote coil adapters ... brand new from Holley ... say $25 delivered in cont usa. FYI: holley, mallory, msd etc all make an rca for big cap hei.
