Default Full electrical harness question

Ok folks . . . . bubba DESTROYED the whole electrical system under the dash . . I took out the dash to find ALOT of wires MELTED and EXPOSED . . . really sad picture . . .

Anyway . . . is there a place where I could buy THE WHOLE electrical system and just replace ALL the existing wires with new ????
This is for a 1980 Vette

Thank You,

Tony G.

All the aftermarket providers carry the Main Dash wiring harnesses. A new fuse block will be included. Sounds like you need it all.

I replaced the dash harness in my 76 last winter. I had a meltdown that took out not only the dash, but the engine harness as well. Luckily the AC harness, light harnesses, and PW harnesses were intact.

While you have the dash out - and you will need to take it all out - it is an excellent time to check for stuff normally hidden behind dash. Change out light bulbs, check for functioning of vacuum doors, clean out the air passages, and great time to check for "air" leaks in firewall. I also took the opportunity to strip the interior and recarpet. Added heat shield / sound barrier.

I would post a picture but can't get to the link. The dash harnesses can be quite expensive but I was lucky enough to find a used one courtesy of Gary Gruhala. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it and it even had all bulbs, relays, and fuse block attached.

Don't know how different the 76 and your car are electrically but if you have any mechanical ability you should be able to do this. Hey - if :troll <-ME can do this, so can you.

Yeh, it's nasty how those harnesses look once they been melted a bit....now unless it's a TOTAL melt-down...and I really have never seen one, unles the car was totaled.....they look much worse than they really are...strip off the outer black wrap, peel the wires apart with some care and finesse, and find the burnt wires....replace them, check for melted insulation on other wires, tape and salvage as common sense would dictate, and then just rewrap with vinyl tape the entire bundle...maybe even use late model plastic corrugated conduit....
tell you what, it's a whole lot cheaper to go supply house wire replace, get a buddy to help solder wires, and redo it, than wait forever for a new/used harness...much less really saves time....give it a shot, might be surprised at what you find and can salvage....

now keep in mind GM used a LOT of wire links...fusible links...and if they are jumpered out because of previous failures...you need replace them...all it really is is...well depending on your definition of is...is....a thin wire in circuit with a thicker one...it will of course act as a fuse....
