Default 77 gas tank interchangeability

I'm going to install a Tanks EFI fuel pump into my 77, I will need to cut a 4 1/2" hole on the top to fit this ( http://www.thedetailzone.com/ ). The 77 has a large wide ovel shaped sending unit that interferes with this install, I was wonder if a earlier year gas tank (smaller round sending unit) will bolt up and filler hole aligned to the 77 deck hole? Thanks

68-77 tanks all generally line up, but in my opinion I would not go with an earlier tank (68-74) because the sending unit is on the bottom. I would go to the junkyard and buy an old GM sending unit from a fuel injected car and combine your sending unit with it. Most any will do, the Cutlass Ciera, Century, etc ones are cheap and available. Just drill an extra hole and solder in the line, swap out the wiring. Then use a GM pump, available most anywhere.

I've already have the Tanks pump assy and would like to use it. So maybe 68-74 vette tank will fit?
