Say what? On a 76, and I have to assume that you are working on a 76, you cannot change the relative positions of the yoke and pinion.

Installed new u joints and pinion seal. while still jacked up ,drive shaft would turn easily by hand.Backed out of shop.In first gear clunking and feels like rear of car raises a little.Thought maybe position of diff. yoke and trans. yoke was wrong?

Still trying to figure out what you are asking. Do you mean the pinion yoke and the axle yokes at 90 deg. You could do that, but they dont stay there as soon as you turn a corner they change. You can put the driveshaft joke and the pinion yoke on one of four different ways, none of which will affect anything except maybe balance.

When the car is jacked up, it is common for the axles to bind, but not with it down. Jack it up, the support the wheels under the shock mount. Then spin the assembly and see if you can detect anything wrong.

Do you think you got all the u-joint cups seated in the yokes? Its easy to have one of the cups up on the end tabs.
