Looking at the HD covers to replace my broken one. New spring is a VB&P 330# @ 2 1/4". 78 & 79 HD covers spec out for the 2 1/2" springs, but the covers for the 68-77 are spec'd for 2 1/4" springs. I have a 79 & assume that VB&P took this into consideration when they assembled their kit. I have a 79, should I stick with a 79 replacement cover or go with the earlier one? Another question is the alum disks that are called cross-member re-inforcers. Are they worth the $40 charge?
you should measure your spring, or measure a bolt...9/16 thread is for the earlier 2-1/4 spring.......I have a new set of those discs if your interested.....$30 delivered. redvetracr@yahoo.com

I'd have to wander out to the shop to get the bolt measurement, however I know the steel spring I removed was 2 1/4". It had 1/8" alum shims on each side to make up the difference. It was a fairly new spring that bubba installed. I was planning to use the shims on the VB&P spring (if needed) to make up for any side slop on the mounting bracket. I guess the 2 1/4" are kind of universal. Probably not enough business to justify both spring widths. This is the new VB&P spring, it is the same width from end to end, no bowtie effect.
