i have a stock 71 BB... if you had 3-4000 to spend, would you go for more power or a 5 or maybe even a 6 speed tranny. its mostly an around town toy...your opinons pleez
I will say the 5 speed totally changed my car. It made it much better to drive any distance and on the highway. The old Muncie was just not up to it anymore and I was replcing it part by part every year. The 6 speed would be to much overdrive for me and put my cruising rpm to low so the 5 speed was a better choice. The new FI motors make a tone of torque from 1K rpms on up so the ycan cruise at 1200 rpm. Mine makes very little below 2000 rpm so I cruise at 2200 to 2300 rpm. More power is also nice!
If its mostly used around town as a cruiser I would put the money in the engine. The biggest difference you will see with a OD tranny would be on the highway.

i/m kinda leaning towards what would would be more fun red light to red light.... anymore opinions..thanks guys
You will use the transmission no matter how you drive the car. If you put the money into making horsepower, you won't use it very often. I have a high horsepressure car and can rarely use the power, and when I can, it's not for very long.
If you could swing it, the trans and a new gear if you're not running a 3.55 now.

Do this first....If anything left, spend it on the exhaust system.
I'm really glad you would, and happy about your opinion. I personally would mod it just the same as I would a '73 or a '77 or an '81. That's the awesome part about free will. Doing whatever the heck you want to do.
