I was driving to go and get some lunch. I had a diabetic reaction and passed out while driving and hit a parked car 3 houses away from mine. I haven't seen my car yet because I was passed out when they took me to the hospital. According to the state patrolman (who was an awesome guy!!!) there's only some stress cracks in the paint because it was such a slow impact. But according to him also I banged up the other car (Ford Aspire) pretty good. I was dropped off at work by my father and won't see the car till later tonight though. I'm so glad though that I didn't hurt anybody and this is going to spawn a huge change in my driving with the diabetes.
I have been a diabetic for 28 years (since I was 10). Never passed out while driving (or ever). I can feel a low blood sugar coming on. I always travel with my meter and if I feel funny I check myself. Always carry something to eat also. You never know when traffic or a breakdown is going to occur. This is a dangerous situation that can be avoided. Keep yourself in control for your health and others. Glad to hear the car is not to serious.
Looks like I'm going to need a new front bumper. Any opinions on the flexlite? I'll probably just go ahead and get the urethane unless there's some good opinions on the flexlite. And I'm going to get my sugars straightened out too. I'm a very brittle diabetic so it'll be tougher but I'll be taking fingertests before I drive a car from now on.
Matt, that's a heck of a way to get a new paint job!
Sorry, I thought a little light heartedness could help. I really am sorry to hear about your mishap. Where are you going to have it fixed?
Please do yourself a favor and avoid Corvette's Only. They have a reputation for rudeness, this I have experienced personally multiple times.
You could try the Corvette Center in the Springs. They do beautiful work. But they aren't cheap...that doesn't matter if you have good insurance.
Call Ric at (800)757-8388 and talk to him.
Tell him Tony sent ya.

I'm sorry to hear your plight, I wish you a speedy recovery, and also your Vette'. The main thing is YOUR'E here.......... you can fix the Vette' but sometimes it's hard to fix a you.
The ONLY thing that matters is that you are OK. Cars mean nothing when it comes to lives. I have a girl who reports to me that passed out in a similar way but she ended up causing a 12-car pile-up. She was on an expressway. Fortunately like your deal everyone walked away.
Just got home and took a look at it. You can't see any damage from 5 feet away! There's a couple of very minor stress cracks and the bumper is a little bit out of alignment. I was amazed when I saw it. I probably won't even need a new bumper. The bumper held up really well. The license plate got bent way out of shape though. Nothing a small trip to the DMV can't fix.
Glad to hear the car's ok.. I had a guy drift across in front of me one day. Wondering what he was doing until he got close enough I could see him out cold behind the wheel. Talk about the cold sweats.. I jammed on my brakes in the middle of a two lane road and watched as he missed my front end by about 5 ft. and preceeded to take out the telephone pole. I jumped out thinking CPR, 1 breath.. 5 pumps.. when I get to the car his wife and baby are in the back seat.. Saw they were OK so I started for him.. She said, he's ok.. he just passes out.. She tapped him in the face a few times and he woke up. I didn't know what to do.. He's done this before? He could have killed someone. I'm glad to hear your going to take precausions.
I'm glad the accident was no worse than it was. I too am diabetic. It took me a few years to recognize low blood sugar signs before I would get disoriented and have no idea why. Fortunately the only time I passed out was in my mother's den. You should always carry some hard candy just in case. Also, it's a good idea to eat a little several times a day instead of the usual three meals.
