hi i'm on my brothers SN, this is for my 67 camaro
i want to stick with a hydrualic cam, my dad said solid isnt worth the trouble.
heres the engine plans
holley 650 DP carb
edelbrock Victor Jr.
trick flow 23 degree heads 64cc chambers
9.7:1 comp speed pro forged pistons
I-beam rods
355 block (350 .030 over) std stroke
heres a few cams i'm looking into
-comp cams 294 xtreme .519/.523 lift rpm range 2800-7000rpm
-lunati bracket master II adv. dur. 300/300 lift .515/.515 2500-6500 rpm range
-ISKY mega-hydrualic dur at .050" 236 degrees lift .510" rpm range 2600-6900rpm
those are ones i'm considering, what do you guys think?
The solid cams are not that much work. They don't need as much adjustment as people think. The hyd. cam really should not be used above 6500 rpm. If you plan to spend some time in the upper rpm I would go with the solid. No lifter pump up with these. Either cam in that range sounds pretty good.
That Isky at the bottom would be my chioce. My old cam was very similar. It was a CompCams 280H. I ran a 750 vacuum Holley and a Weiand action plus with a 3000 stall and 4.11's. Bottom end wasn't even a concern of mine. In fact I switched to a single plane Offenhauser to try and ward off some of that torque and gain traction but it didn't really help but I sure did feel the gain up top. I only finally gained traction when the IRS was tweaked. It worked very well to 6500 but I actually shifted at 6700. With the Brodix heads I ran the builder said he typicaly sees those engines make 410hp and 430 ft/lbs. If memory serves I ran mid 8's in the eigth mile on street tires only to run 1/10 slower than a preproduction Z06. Man would have I killed to have traction that day!
Stingy74,
How did you tweak the IRS & how much difference did it make? I've heard that changing the camber for the strip helps but can't remember the amount of change that the guy recommended.
I just bought that 650 holley, i think you'd be better off with a 750. I haven't tweeked mine much yet but outa the box it wasn't as good as i had hoped.
