Default How do I remove my driver side door panel ?

For one reason or another my driver side door does not want to open from the inside. When I pull the inside handle it sounds like it is going to unlatch but nothing happens.

My dilema is I can't seem to get the door panel off, so that I can see what is going on with the latch. I believe there is a clip on the inside of the lock **** but I can't tell where it is located or how to get it off.

It is a 77 with deluxe panels if that makes a difference...

There are 2 clips with screws on each end of the door and some velcro type fasteners.Dont take the screw out of the inside pull handle-just slide the panel forward over it,but first pull the top of panel off of inner door.

Default 77 door panel

Hi I have 2 77 vettes , I have had door panels off many times. Remove 2 screws that hold trim plate for rear view mirrior adjuster, pull out slightly and you will see small allen set screw holding toggle assb to trim plate. losein this screw. and toggle will seperate from trim plate. Go to any auto parts store and get the tool for removeing G.M. window cranks. "Very cheap" Use it to remove clips from the window cranks if so equiped. And can be used for the lock ***** if not to wide (if it is grind it away) or use a wire hook to get the clip and pull it off. Lift open the door opening lever and hold open, you will see a phillips head screw just on inside. you will need to hold lever all the way open to remove this scew, do so. now there are 2 screws at the top of the panel on each side, remove them . find screws on inside edge of door about two/thirds of the way down on the leading and trailing edges. (near weather strip). Remove these and pull at the bottom of door panel, Its still held on by these velcro things. Pull away at the bottom and then up.

In order to move my mirror I have to reach my hand out the window.. so I don't think I have the adjuster.. maybe my panels aren't deluxe?

thanks for the hints everyone!!

You have a 77, they only came with deluxe door panels. there was no standard interior in 77. however you may have one that does not have the sport mirrors. although I have never seen one you may have the 76 and down chrome mirriors. I have heard this is possible. so deleate that bit about the mirrior adjuster. I did forget to state that you need to remove the 2 philips head screws that hold the door pull on. sorry I was in a bit of a hurry before.

Sport mirrors were an option in '77. My car originally had the driver's-side-only worthless chrome "arm" mirror.
