While I think the rear suspension of these cars is a bit weired to begin with I was just checking out the rear of my car and I see a label that says "fiberglass monospring.... is this a good thing?
My car has a fiberglass spring.. how long before I can expect that to break in 2?
GM has been using fiberglass springs since the early 80s without any problems. I have had one for 7 years without any problems. It should not break. Yes there have been a few broken ones but probably installed wrong or to close to the exhaust pipes. They have millions of miles on glass springs without a problem.
The Corvette has had a fiberglass spring since about 1980. Very low failure rate. I have a customer with about 380,000 miles on an '84 'Vette with the original rear fiberglass spring. No worries!
Yes it is a little weird at first but the transverse spring configuration has been around for a long time, longer than the fiberglass spring has been used.
My 81 still has the original glass spring with120k on it. I have only actually heard of 1 breaking and that was a month or so ago in here, there was a post. I am sure more have failed, but I just have known about it. GM doesn't report in every day, LOL
