I got a guy who said he can give me a show quailty paint job without color or wet sanding my car. Is this possible? Or am I going to need a big jar visaline if I let him paint my car?
Yes, I've seen his shop and took a quick look some of his work. I going back this weekend and get specifics about what he is going to do. At that time I will take a closer look at the job that he just completed.
But I got to tell you, the No wet or color sanding thing bothers me. From all my research, the only way to duplicate the current finish (my car has been painted at least once) on the car is to wet or color sand.

Mine is in the final stages of paint and I would not want a paint job without the painter wetsanding & buffing. The finish that is on my car now looks better than a factory job (see pics below) but you ought to see the front end that was just sanded and buffed!!!
you get what you pay for. If you would be happy with a paintjob without color sanding then by all means go for it but I don't think it is a show quality finish. just my .02
Actually if you use acrylic 2pack(2k) paint,in a vented spray booth then bake it on. You dont need to buff or wet sand the car to get a perfect finish. But you need to wear an air fed mask because 2pack paint contains isocyanide which is a killer.

I will have to take your word for it I am not a painter
Lookin' good Jeff....It's good to see a painter that knows how to properly mask a car for paint.
P.S.. Is that the original color code 988?
The original color is Daytona Yellow... I like the yellow but I wanted something a little deeper with metallic in it so I went with the 988 color for '69.
They masked the entire underneath of the car, engine compartment etc. I learned soon into the process that I didn't need to look over their shoulder, that was comforting because I am very picky. thanks for the comments.

The body was in decent shape other than the front fenders. The lips were gone and someone put 1970 flares on the fenders. I bought new GM fenders and had them put on. They repaired the rivets on the front by the headlights & filled luggage rack holes. They made sure the door jambs and all other gaps were perfect. I also had them fit two rear valances; one to be used with sidepipes and the other for under car exhaust that way if I get tired of the sidepipes (i doubt it) I can change it to the under car exhaust. They also put in new poly body mounts.
To answer your question...$10,000 so far. I will probably end up around $11-11.5K by the time they are done. They are hoping to get it to me before Xmas. Not cheap but well worth it since everything on the car is new.
I have never seen a painter that does show quality work, not wet sand and buff the paint.there's alway alittle dust or dirt or something and no matter how good the spray gun, paint will never flow the same on all the panels of a car.
I wouldn't even take the chance. Why risk him screwing it up?If he thinks he can do get a quality job without wet sanding the he obviously doesn't even have a clue wtf he's talking about or he never would have made that claim.

IMHO, a very good painter can make it look very good without color sanding and buffing. However, an average painter that is good at color sanding and buffing can make it far better, what we would really mean by show quality.

"Show Quality" is a finish that is free of the orange peel look and feel. The color look very deep. Last summer, the car was shown and driven in NCCC events.
