Default Another Angle Plug Thread

I have seen many posts about people glad that they went with the angle plug heads because they don't think straight plugs would work with the headers. My question is, if I get angle plug heads, will they work with the stock manifolds? I am interested in using the stock manifolds for the engine break-in.

My straight plug AFR heads work with my 1 3/4 Hooker headers just fine. Yes angle plugs should work fine with manifolds.

So, both angle plug and straight plug heads will work with stock manifolds and headers?

That's not necessarly true. I ran into problems with my Hooker Comps (bought from Gordonm) and Edelbrock angle plug heads. Several of the plugs are very close and #6 is just impossible. I could have put a dimple in the tube for clearence, but I'd rather not damage the ceramic coating. I ended up making spacers out of 1/2" aluminum plate to move the header away from the head. Now it just clears.

I think it depends on the header design. I had an old set of Blackjack headers with GM turbo heads that had no clearence problems.

Did you try the shorty plugs before you made the spacers?

I did not see the part on manifolds and headers, Yes some headers will have a problem with angle plugs. My AFR heads are straight and both the 1 5/8 Hooker Comps and 1 3/4 Super Comps did not have a problem. There are some tight plugs and wires and it takes some creative wrenching to get them out but they did fit. I have never had a set of angle plug heads with headers.
