Default de-computer controlling an 81

Having trouble with a friends 81, when i got hold of it evryone had tampered with it. seems to run fine on primaries (now) but barks badly when secondaries open. ran the analyser on it and really lean esp when secs open.
also has probs with dizzy.
i am looking at putting hei with vacc advance and non-computer carb on it, what probs will i encounter??? and can i just unplug comp? and do i just unplug the 4 pin plug as u do when setting timing?
any feedback appreciated.

I have done the conversion on an 82 crossfire. You can just unplug the computer . You may have some troublre if your tranny has some computer control but you can find out how to wire the trans in the archives.

Just don't hook up the 4 pin dist. harness, at least that's what I did when I switched over to HEI vacumm advance. I still have computer controled carb. but believe you can install pre-'81 Q-Jet and simply not hook up harness attachments as well. My TH 350 automatic transmission still works and lock up torque convertor still work as well.

Only problem you may experience in doing this conversion, is that you may get a service engine soon light, if you do, just remove the bulb.
