That's funny, it works fine on mine. I did a Google search under "torque changes extention bar". You should be able to find something there. Anyway, that site had a formula for making the adjustments for extention bars and other tools.
If you are talking about an extension or adapter or whatnot its not gonna change the reading, but if you make the handle longer or shorter it will.
In the situation of a torque wrench torque= force x (the perpendicular distance) or the length of the handle. Changing the parrallel distance (ie the # of extensions, adapters, etc.) does nothing to the torque
If you have a torque wrench on the bolt and use an extension on the handle of the torque wrench it will not change the torque at the bolt it will take less force at the end of the handle extension to get the torque reading you want. The wrench still reads what the torque at the bolt is.
So for instance using a 18 inch extension on the torque wrench (wrench head to bolt) should not have any effect on the value? the links working this morning
This has come up before and someone mentioned that using an extension will increase torque required to achieve the same bolt tightening. I don't agree and can't see how it could possibly change the torque value. There are no friction losses, goemetry remains the same re torque arm. Im positive the torque required to achieve the same bolt stress is the same regardless of the length of the extension.
In my opinion the answer is yes, the torque will change. Will it be measurable with a 18" length extention, 1/2" drive set tightening head bolts. I don't think so.

correct.

I am in a statics engineering class right now and we deal with this sort of thing on a daily basis and I know for a fact that adding extensions and what not will not change the torque.
If you are using a extension that is vertical to the TW square drive then it will not change the reading. If you are using something that changes the overall length of the torque wrench, such as a crowsfoot wrench, then the reading will change. For details of the formula to calculate the reading change setting see the web sites below.
