HI All, I'm finishing up the restoration on my 76 and would like to do away with the original (Vega) steering wheel. I would like to use the repro. 68-75 wheel. I have a standard no tilt/tele. col.Has anyone out there done this and what parts are necessary? I have not taken the col. apart yet. I'm doing the research first. Thanks in advance for any help. mwc3
The actual steering column is the same 1969 through 1976. But you need the steering wheel, the hub, and the horn hardware. This first link shows the hub and steering wheel. The Cover #5 is just a dust cover and you can probably get away without it.
There are not that many parts that you need. Most early Corvettes came with the standard (non-adjustable) steering column so I would think that they should be still available.
Just for comparison, here is the 1976-79 steering wheel and horn parts picture. The spring, eyelet, and insulator would be the same as the parts from your original column.
Many thanks to Jim Shea and Savage118 for the info. I e-mailed the Tech Dept. at Corvette Central and they replied with a list of needed parts similar to Jim's,I ordered them and the conversion to the earlier wheel worked out great. Corcette Forum is the greatest !!!!!! mwc3
