I was looking in the Eckler's catalog - found: 76L-78 Seal Kit, Radiator Support, w/L48 w A/C p. 25700 - is this all I will need when I replace the tired old radiator? Didn't everyone say - the radiators Pep Boys or Autozone sells will work in my "77?
Zip sells a good set of seals... and has diagrams to show you how they should be installed. They don't look like they do much... but you'll see a big difference in cooling ability when they're installed.
I don't know about these thngs. I have practically none left except some on the sides of the radiator which are in sad shape. I never experienced any cooling problems, always around 180 degrees.
Get yourself a Dr. Rebuild catalog and look at his diagrams or check out the assmbly manual. I am told the seals make a BIG difference in the temperature of the vehicle and it's ability to cool the temp in the radiator because the air is forced through the radiator rather than around it.
Very good - I'm going to replace the radiator cause the original is getting a little tired - no overheating, yet. I figured might as well do it right while I've got it out.
Thought I remembered you are planning to do a future engine swap to a BB, if so, would make sure you are getting a replacement radiator big enough to handle BB cooling requirements.
I replaced my radiator with a Modine from Advance Auto a couple of years ago and I've had no problems with it (wood :smash: ). I also purchased the radiator seal kit from Zip. It worked fine, but I thought it was a little expensive since you can get the same foam from Home Depot or Lowes. I believe that several members have done just that with success.
I'm sure you've read the procedure for removal and reinstall. I hope you have someone with you because an extra set of hands sure would have been nice to have when I put my radiator in.
