Default Paint job update, plus a question.

Well its been about a week since I've updated anyone on the progress of my paint job. The car is in full primer and the door jambs will be done tomarrow. I am very very happy with the progress and looks so far. When I dropped my car off, I showed up 3 days later, then 2 days after that, then anotehr 2, and now I am there every day, I am getting very anxious, and Im sure the body man is getting a little fed up with me, but I know showing up is the only way it'll get done, and done how I paid for it to get done. Also, I just got in my weatherstripping from Corvette Rubber. $215 for the 9 peice set. I must say, it is top quality. I am VERY pleased, and very happy...my car is finally coming together!

An update on my color:
I was talking to the owner about the color I picked out, trying to find out its name so I could post it on here, and a lemans blue vette went by. I couldn't speak, it was so beautiful, I had color envy. Needless to say I was thumbin through the color book again looking for lemans blue. I think that color is beautiful. I like the pewter, but when I saw that lemans blue I couldn't speak. I had to have it. Which posed a new problem with the interior. It being black, I don't like how it looks with blue, So I went to work picking out an interior color. The color if choice is WHITE. I know how it will be to clean, but, I think the combonation will be "untouchable" I think it will be a combo that when people look at the car, they are afraid to touch it. I won't do the interior until late October I think, just because I want to drive it, its been to long since I've had a chance to drive it.

I have a bunch of pictures already (over 50) of the body repair in progress, but when I try to upload, corvette forum's server is down, so I will have to post the pictures later.

This brings me to my question: My carpet is now black, the carpet color I decided to go with, is blue. If I get just the front carpet(that needs to be replaced), can I easily dye the rear carpet easily(from black to blue). Also, can I go with a blue other then indigo blue for a 77 carpet? Is there another blue out there that more closely matches the lemans blue?

Thanks for listening;
Daniel
PS. Im going with a factory style 77 rear emblem, does anyone have one for sale??

I'm a little partial to LeMans Blue myself :D For what it's worth the factory Vettes in that color only came w/ either black or blue interiors. Mine's black & it looks just fine w/ the blue. You should be able to find a LeMans Blue w/ black interior on the Proteams website- that's where I did alot of looking when I was deciding on what color to paint my car. If you want to see what it looks like w/ the blue, check out 69er's sig and/or his website for some great pics- that's a beautiful car! I can't see dying black carpets blue..just don't think it'll work. It's also hard for me to picture a mix of white & blue in the interior. It might look good but it may also just not go well together. Whatever you decide, good luck.

I like the blue on blue. What is the name of that blue? I think perhaps that will be wiser just because it will be easier to keep clean. White would be a bear. I will look at it though. As for factory. My car is a 77...lemans blue wasn't an option after 70 I don't think, so Im sorta doing it however I think it would look the best. "A combo the factory should have produced in '77". :yesnod:

Im supposed to go up today to see the color on the jambs, but I don't know if I will get a chance, if not I'll go up tomarrow and take some pics and post them.

Daniel
PS. I will try dyeing my carpet blue, if not I will not hurt anything, because it would have needed to be replaced anyway, so I will just buy a complete set. Also, I do know that white with indigo blue carpet was an option in 77(I may be wrong, but I think it is). I have never seen it though.

Rule of thumb on dyes....

Never try to dye a dark color with a light color.
ie,...black will be a biatch to bye blue, red, yellow etc...
ie,...white will be ez to dye yellow, red, blue, etc...

when my father owned the car, he went to dove grey from black, then one day he decided to remove all the old dye(paint, whatever). I know it will be a bear to paint them all a light color, but I cannot drop $2000 on a complete interior(dash and all), right now, and I do want to get rid of this black, its just hot, sticky, and faded. I will be buying new door panels, and new carpet, but everything else will be dyed. As I get the money, I will slowly replace all my interior parts. But until then I will have to try my hand at dyeing them. I will first try it on some hard to see parts(like the kick panels), just to see what Im getting my hands into, and to get some experiance before I try dyeing my dash or something else that the whole world will see.

Who knows, I may like the black, and decide to keep it for a couple years. I won't know until I get the car back(so I can see how it looks w/the black). But if I do try to dye it, I'll take lots of pics.

well I swung by the shop today and looked at how my door jambs looked(to see the color, in person, on the car), it also gave me a good idea as to how it would look with the black interior, and I must say it looks a lot nicer then I thought it would(the pictures I have seen on BlueThunder web site don't do the combo justice). Most of the pictures I have seen makes the whole interior look like a giant shadow, so I could never tell how it looked. I also went over my back acount and  I had more then I thought I did(bad bookeeping I guess, oh well, better I planned for less, then more). I also rolled all my change around the house(I had change in every jar and they all where full, so it was time anyway), and I came up with enough quaters(alone) to buy a carpet set  . And enough extra money in my bank account to replace the speakers in the dash when I have it out(to freshin it up, and fix some mounting brackets that broke). Things are coming together nicely!!, I am very pleased so far.

Anyway, I am going to stay with the black interior and try it out for a year or two, if I find I don't like it, I can always change it later, plus keeping it black is the cheapest and easiest thing to do right now. I went and got a bunch of interior dye, and a roll of vinal that matches the cars stock pattern. The vinal will be used to recover some parts that are rough(like the sides of the center consoule). When I get the car back I will drive it for a month or two, then on the first REALLY cold day, I will park it and take the interior out for a fresh coat of dye and new door panels and carpet. Then it will be christmas, and santa is getting me Horse Power this year. SO that will take me a while to get in too, by the time the weather starts to warm up, I will have it all back together.

:D :D
Im very happy!

EDIT: I will have pics soon

Daniel

Check out AussieVette http://www.geocities.com/sheridan_butt/ I think Sheridan's Vette is about the most beautiful on this forum. It is LeMans Blue and even has a black interior.
My 69 will also be repainted LeMans Blue. The interior will be a light cream color with red carpeting. The same red material used in the new C5's. I will post pictures when I get it done. Dash still very much in pieces and no time lately to get it put back in place. All the pieces have been repainted though and is beginning to look truly gorgeous!

I had gone with white earlier with silver/grey carpet, nice. The light cream with the red IMHO now looks absolutely stunning.

I know someone on here has a LeMans blue with white interior Vette. I think it's a 68. My 68 is LeMans blue, and my newly-dyed black interior pieces are looking great.
