I have a 79 L82 with power locks which work the passenger door, but not the driver's door. It depresses the lock, but the door does not actually lock. The only way to lock the door is by turning the key on the outside. Has anybody had this problem before?
I've got the Chilton's manual on the way, but have some time this week to work on it.
Yep. The linkages are just gummed up with old grease and dirt. Remove the door panel, clean these items up and re-lube. It should be fine. If not, let us know.
Toss the Chilton's book. They tend to be too generic. Get the AIM book for your car. They are car specific, and much more informative.
Helm is the original publisher. I do not know if it is being re-printed. Search the various Corvette suppliers, e-bay, or just wait. Someone reading this will know.
I really appreciate the help. Where can I get an AIM book?
you might also want to check out corvette america for an authorized reprint, or check on ebay. i got one from my 78 on ebay for about 1/2 the price of a brand new one, and was hardley ever opened before i got it.
Are these manuals easy to follow for weekend players like myself?
Their not bad for weekenders. There is almost too much info sometimes. When you get ready to do something read the entire chapter so you dont miss anything. If you try to skip and pick the info you can miss little things. Some of the other books will condense the info to make it easier but I'm not sure which ones are good.
