I give up, what is the trick to the turn signal switch control ring thing working correct? This is the third one I installed, so it's something I'm doing. Theres a new switch and canceling cam,but if you bump the lever up a little, not to right turn, both sides blink or if it sits just a little off center only left brake light works. WTF...
What needs to be changed now,I think I'm installing it right, not that dam hard..
To test one of them, just plug into the long connector at the steering column without installing it. Doubtfill that 3 units would be bad. That should tell you if your install is correct.
Erratic behaviour is usually a bad ground. Just above the driver's kick panel is the harness connector for the rear harness. Try testing your rear bulbs, sockets wires by powering the individual wires directly with something like a PowerProbe.
I went through the bulb checks, all good, routes are good also. The problem seems to be in the switch housing, slightley off center and one rear light wont work,or slightly off the other way and both blinkers blink. All other electrical components/switches work great..
Still thinking ground?
68RATVT-Sounds like we are getting our switches from the same place
Your doing it right. It wouldn't surprise me if the third is bad also.
Most of the repop switches are junk, supposedly Lectric Limited makes a good one for 68(source: the Forum ). I'm on my second switch myself(not LL). I ended up taking my old one apart to see how it works, had to do some tweaking but I got it to work OK. When this one goes bad I'll be giving Lectric Limited a call
How could we be the only ones? I just went out to the car,put my foot on the brake, move the lever up a little the right side went off, move it down a little, left goes off, centered both work, all three did the same thing. So when the blinker cancels if it does not go back to exact center, one bank stays out. Thats crazy
There's more of us out there
When the original switch is centered and only one brake light would work, according to our local Vette parts guys, the problem comes from the weight of the signal lever wearing out the spring inside over time. Now with the poor repops, a whole host of other problems crop up....
Actually I posted a question some months ago about these switches, I was warned about the repops, and to go with the Lectric Limited ones. Maybe later this evening other 68'ers that have dealt with this will come on line with their experiences
