Default 77 Corvette headers in California

I am gonna buy a set of longtubes for my 77 in about a month here and I came across these http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Is it worth it to put these onto the headers I get or are the smog people just gonna look at them and laugh? I figure since it is not moving the location of the 02 sensors or anything (since there are none) that as long as they have the AIR hookups all should be well. Am i wrong in thinking this?

Use Hedman 68301 - they have the air pump connections.

Truth of the matter is, don't bother, you wasting money....reason is that stupid cat *** trophic converter you stuck with blocks most breathing ability anyway....and totally negates ANY gain from headers....

any HONEST header maker will tell you that if you have a muffled/closed/converter pipes the effect of the header is totally negated, no power increase....

since it's california, I would concentrate on other mods that will keep your inspections/figgers happy....

Gene,
I have an 81 here in Ca. And in principal, I agree with your response. However, there is not much we can legally do to these cars. So, I have two questions.
1)If he were to add the headers, change to a new high flow cat, then add Flowmasters, would he not be better off, however how slight?
2) What other legal mods do you suggest?
I have done almost every legal mod that I can, and have gone from 190 HP to about 250 HP, and as small as that is, it is still a 20% gain, and the car does run much smoother, and believe it or not, cleaner. I am not debating, just curious for all us Kalifornians. Jeff

I think that with High Flow cats and mufflers there is no way that you are negating the gain from headers. I have Long tubes and high flow cats on my 05 GTO and I saw a 25 hp increase on the dyno and I still have the stock intake and catback.

I have heard that if you run true dual and two cats the smog guys can ding you on that too. Is that true?

Unfortunately this is true. But, if you drop in a later powerplant that came with dual cats, that's okay. It just doesn't seem fair, but then again dual cats have dual oxygen sensors, and the computers to support them.

Shoot! Do they really check that when you go to smog the car? I mean, Isn't having two cats better than having one cat?

The last time I smogged it, they dinged me for no hot air stove on the ex. manifold. You takes your chances.
