Default Need help with timing problem please.

I am getting a little backfire out of the right bank of my 383 at slow speeds. After doing the usual checks I've discovered a problem with my timing. I use an Accell blueprint hei distibutor. I have the timing set at 36 degrees advance. The problem is when I let it idle back down, the advance stays at 36 degrees. If i turnn off the car and restart it, the timing goes back down. But one rev and it sticks at 36 degrees again. I tried using the next stronger spring but it didnt help. This is all done with the vacuum advance disconnected. Any ideas why this is happening? And do you think this is what is causing my backfire at slow speeds?

Thanks in advance,

How about the posts the weights are on? Are they real tight?

They seem to be fine, they snap back quickly when I manually move them.

Thought I'd let you know what the problem was incase it happens to others. I pulled the rotor off the dist to discover the weights were rubbing againt the rotor. Very strange since there is no adjustment for this. I used tiny washers to shim the rotor up and that solved the problem. Never seen anything like this but It's working fine know.
