Default 69 Clutch Adjustment

I put the motor back in the car last week, replacing the stock clutch, p/p, and throw out bearing with a centerforce dual friction package, anyway now my clutch adjustment rod is about 1/2" to short. WTFs up with that. Anyone ever encounter this problem? I can extend the rod and it will probably be fine but why?

That pressure plate may need a longer throwout bearing.

Did you change the pivot ball in the bell housing? You may need a longer one. Summit sells an adjustible piece. Make sure the one you have is tight in the bell housing.

I had to adjust both centerforce d/f in my 65 & 71, At 1st it seems to not have enough adjustment, but it will adjust properly, after about 100 miles I checked the freeplay, no problems the 65 has about 8000 miles on it.

It is a very common problem. The correct fix is to use a longer clutch fork pivot ball. Although GM makes a "long" pivot ball, most people use an adjustable one to get it just the right length. Unfortunately, you have to pull the trans to change the clutch fork pivot ball. There are several lengthy threads on this topic in the archives. The (easy) bubba fix is to lengthen the clutch rod. That is of course what I did, and it worked fine. At first I spliced a piece into the stock clutch rod. (picture is around somewhere) but eventually I bought a longer universal replacement, might have been a Mr Gasket part.

here is an old pic of a stock clutch rod next to the modified stock rod:
This worked fine, but as I said, I am not using this any more.

Along with your new CF clutch there was supposed to be an orange sheet of instructions that gives all the required measurements concerning the clutch fork pivot ball.

Ok I welded a 1 inch piece to my lower clutch rod (actually turned out pretty nice), but now when I push the clutch in right before it disengages I here a clunck and the pedal gets harder then the clutch releases. I called Centerforce tech support they said the angle of the clutch fork was such that its pulling the throwout bearing out of the fork. they suggested a longer pivot ball to lesson the angle. According to there instructions I should have 4 3/4 inches from the rear of the engine to the tip of the pivot ball. I guess i"ll start taking things apart tonight to check it out. I still don't know why this should be a problem, I did'nt change any of the geometry from stock.
