Unfortunately they are not screw in studs. The missing posi-lock is probably down in the pan out of harms way. I have seen this before from tightning them too tight and actually streching the threads to a point they finally fail. Another reason some aftermarket stuff just dont work as good as the General originally made them. If thats a press in stud the head should probably come off as trash trying to repair the head will be all over to get the other 1/2 of the stud out. Just buy long slot stamped rockers next time. Thats all thats on L88`s!

with ironcross.

It looks like you have been making other mod to the engine, so it's time to step up the heads. If one broke due to someone over tightening it figure the odds that the other 15 were done properly. Cheapest way might be to find a set of Vortecs & a Vortec intake. I don't know the specs on your engine, you'll need to know that before buying new heads. The other path, if you are happy with the current performance level, would be to pull the rocker studs & have the heads machined for screw-ins, but that is kind of a waste on stock heads of little value anyway.

i have the posi lock it wont fit through the oil holes in the head i sat the rocker back on the stud and looks like i might have enough threads to put on a locking nut maby i could try that? looks like what someone did 2 studs over from the one that broke but that stud doesent look broke maby they just lost a posi lock lol if i try and unscrew the stud i will mess up the threads probly, i only had this car 3 weeks and i was impressed with the power i would like to know whats inside i just didnt want to find out quiet this quick

they make a tool to pull the rest of the stud out while leaving the heads on the car. pull the stud, and loctite the new 1 and press it in. something else to think about if you don't want to pull the heads off. you can drill thru the casting around the stud and straight thru the stud and out the other side and put a pin thru it. takes lots of time and patience. good luck

Vette crazzy is right. Matter of fact, bobs77vet replaced one with a screw in and posted a very good thread last summer. Try searching his threads for more info.

If you turn this engine very hard at all, most likley this will happen again. The stock studs just will not take that much. The fix for that is to remove the heads and have your favorite machine shop put in 7/16 th screw in studs. Yeah its a lot of work to do that, but if it does happen again, you might break the pushrod, bend valves, ect. Valve train is no where to skimp on parts in a motor that you want to run hard and live long.

This is correct. I have both the puller and installer, both of which are readily available. There must be some threads left to use the puller. Most of the other posts are right in that you've probably reached the limit of the stock press-in studs capability, but you could probably get away with just replacing it. Better yet, do them all and know that at least you have known good studs. These can be changed in the car, but make sure you drain the coolant and re-seal the new studs since the tapered holes go through to the water jacket. Congrats on the new vette, and how about a picture?
