I was thinking of paying someone to finish my bodywork on my vette as I've had very little fiberglass experience, but just found a local vocational school that teaches body work and you use your own car for $155. I can't pass that up, plus I'm doing the work myself... pride is a beautiful thing. Anyway, they also have a painting class with all the tools and a downdraft IR drying paint booth that you use on your car for a great price. My question is paint selection. I've had it in my mind of doing a dark, not too flashy car. I want a dark blue that looks good, but doesn't scream out at you, just looks really nice and I'll let the engine and exhaust do the talking for the car. I'm also going to black rims to downplay it a bit more. Where has everyone bought their paint at? What kind of paint have you used? There's soo many choices and I'm sure the class will talk about it, but I'm sure there's way more knowledgeable people here and not to mention some mouthwatering cars...
Man, that's awesome...I'd love to find a vocational school in the Detroit area with a similar program that would allow me to paint my own car in a decent facility. Good luck!
There are many of these schools around the country and a lot of which are sponsered by US automakers. Do a google search for your area and you may find one. I attended a great one down here in Hollywood, FL which had a similar body shop course.

I haven't had any luck finding such a school in the Detroit area (kinda' weird as you would think Detroit would be loaded with these types of schools). I've tried every type of Google search, but no luck.
After all the body work seal the body with ppg epoxy primer sealer so none of the old , new body work bleeds back through ..I bought my paint ppg through English Color store. See if the school can buy through their shop account and the prices will be much cheaper then walking in off the street.

Look for "Adult Education" classes in your area and then look at what they offer. That's where you can find them in South Florida. I've taken many over the years including, Body Shop, Auto Tune Up, Auto A/C, Auto Mechanics, and others. The cost was next to nothing. The Auto Mechanics course was sponsored by GM and Ford and they supplied new vehicles for the students to work on. I remember one being a ZR-1 Vette. After they're done with the cars, they were crushed as they didn't want them getting into the hands of the public after a bunch of students worked on them.
