engine number decode please
I've been donated a small block can anyone decode the block stamping for me
my books don't cover it. I think it's out of a '76 chevelle.

ok here's what i got, little confused from my sources but it reads a 76 block used in 76 buillt on November 9th 1976.
CMJ that means you got a police engine. and if you have 4 bolt mains its an LT1 block.. sounds like you got a nice piece of steel there. :eek:

Scott, the small block ID guide shows the CMJ code as a 74-76 350 with TH400for use in full size Chevys ( police cars ). The date code on yours shows a 74. The CMJ code was also used in 1980 on 305 for fullsize and Camaros. Hershey :cheers:

Thanks for looking it up. No 4 bolt mains and someone had put a 2 bbl carb on it. It came out of a short track car that was t-boned at a local track. It also came with a turbo 350 attached . All for the grand total of 0$, my kind of pricing :D .
