Default Parking Brake Cable Connection

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a little help with the parking brake connections. I now have one trailing arm assembly on the car complete with new SS parking brake shoes and hardware. The other night I tried to connect the cable to the PB lever on the TA and find it does not stay put. Everytime I pull on the cable, it comes off the lever. The kit does not have any clips to retain the cable. If anyone has any suggestions or pictures of the assembly I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks

The spring on the cable goes between the lever and the cable guide on the t-arm. Put the ball in the lever 1st and compress the spring to get it in front of the cable guide. You should also have a clip on the cable where it goes through the t-arm bracket and the bracket mounted on the frame. We call them mickey mouse clips b/c of the design.

Thanks for the input. I have the MM clips on the cable brakets. The problem is the cable ball and spring will not stay on the lever. Does the lever get compressed to keep the cable in place?

I think there is supposed to be tension on the cable to keep it in the lever, unless the cable has a kink in it or the lever loop is open more than it should be. Got a pic?

If you route the cable though the brackets(Frame & t-arm), just put the ball in the lever and pull on the spring to get it past the cable guide. Once the spring is past the guide it will have tension.

Thanks for the reply's folks. I hope to install the second trailing arm this weekend and connect the other PB cable end. That should put more tension on the cable. From what I've seen so far, I'll have to bend the lever tab down a little to secure the cable. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

I'll post a few shots when complete.

Thanks again.

I had the same problem when I replaced my cables. You shouldn't crimp down on the lever. Take out enough slack on the cable by adjusting tha cable itself where it attaches to the parking brake cable. It should pull straight enough without coming out.

Ctrain, anyway you can make that pic larger? its too small to see any detail.

I had the same issue last week when i put my cables on. My lever was open too much so when you pulled the PB lever the ball would slide right out of the lever. I wedged a small chisel under that lever and used a brass punch to pound down on the lever to close the loop a little more. Took some pounding but the catch loop closed up a bit and now holds the cable low enough that the ball doesn't pop out.
