Default temp sensor for edelbrock heads

has anyone tryed to use the stock style temp sensor for edelbrock rpm heads? the stock thread in 1/2 and edelbrock uses a 3/8. i tried looking for a npt style reducer but was unsuccessful. i can go from 3/8 tp 1/2 but not 1/2 to 3/8. surely someon has tried this? (o ya i have a '79 vette)

I have the same issue with the aftermarket alum heads....this ones not in the instructions!
I am in the process of an engine build. I bought a water temp sensor for a 79 Vette. It is a 3/8" NPT. Hopefully it will be close to the calibration of my 72....well see...
I paid $11 at Advance. Be sure if you buy one, that it states its for a gauge and not a dash light. Some aftermarket intakes have 1/2" openings, one for the heater and one on the other side....best of luck

Ran into the same situation on a 68 Camaro I used to have.
Go to your local parts place with the old sensor, give a brief explanation of what you are doing, tell them you want this type sensor with a 3/8 thread. An experienced parts person will know what to do.

I don't remember what vehicle the sensor was for that I ended up with(I think it was out of a '90s pickup), but it worked fine

I just ran into the same problem. The guy at Autzone went through almost every Chevy sensor in the store. I think it was the 1983 6 cylinder Chevy Celebrity sensor that was 3/8 with the single connection, which worked with my new vortec heads and the original temp gauge in my '77. Good luck.

Whatever sensor you buy, it's most important get the same resistance rating... or your gage will not read correctly.

Why not ream & tap the existing hole for the correct sensor? ... it's quite likely there's plenty of meat to accommodate this.

This is what I did with my aluminum head. Just took it into the machine shop and had them drill and tap the hole to a larger size. I think it cost about $25.

That's strange. My original temp sensor fit my RPM heads perfectly.
I have the 64cc strait plug version. Guess I got lucky.

Ran into the same issue with my Darts on my 79. I just took sender in hand down to the hardware store and got a brass fitting. Male side threads into the head and female side accepts the sender. Maybe cost a couple of bucks.

chris70lt1 - i just called corvette paramedics, there sending me a sensor that they had supplied others with same issues, did you check your resistance of it before you installed the sensor or does it read close enough?
