My Megashifter Install
I had to cut a slot in the console support bracket for the shifter. This is the only cutting I had to do on the car.

I also had to drill new mounting holes where shown. The rear of the shifter is sitting on a 1/4" nut and washer for spacing with the bolt installed from underneath. This worked out really good for mounting studs.

The shifter required lots of grinding to make fit. Fortunatly there was plenty of meat where the clearancing was required.

Here is the shifter installed to the floorpan.

and finally the shifter installed through the console.

The boot may give me a little trouble. Actually I haven't figured this out yet. The upper end of the boot must mount around a rectangular piece on the shifter handle. I am not sure how much extra material would be required for a leather boot to allow the shifter to move enough. The megashifter rubbver accordian is too long to fit here so this will require more thought. Also, the megashifter shift indicator is small enough to fit in the factory window but some fabrication of brackets, trim ring, etc. will be required.

The one big issue I had is finding a location for the multiple switches I have,i.e NOS activation, NOS purge, NOS heater and the cig lighter.
Currently it is a little too high for my taste, but for another $50 they sell a new shifter that is 2 inches shorter, which will look much better than it is now, but I am pretty pleased overall.
I will list the pics tomorrow getting late and I am going to bed.

As I mentioned earlier I need to purchase the smaller shift console because this one is too big for my taste. Also the stick will decrease 2" in size once I buy the new stick, but not too bad for now.
Cheers

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I have had a local upholstry shop tell me that he can make me a custom leather boot for the shifter to work in the factory console but I am now going a different route. A machinist buddy has machined a stainless sheet metal overlay for the console with all of the openings I need for this shifter and also for NOS controls.I had to do a litte investigative research but I have found the manufacturer of the carbon fiber dash kit that I bought from Ecklers. I have sent them my overlay to be coated to match the pics above. I will post more when I get it back.
BTW, 76 sting, your install looks realy good. For everyone else looking at this, It can be done but as been said above, it is a PITA. There is fabrication involved and the install is so tight that each installation would have to be a custom fit as there just is not any clearance. Definately not a weekend project.
This is the new console top layout. A friend cut this out of stainless sheet metal in a CNC mill for me. I cut the openings out in the plastic console top to match. I then sent this to get a carbon fiber overlay done to match the rest of my dash. The megashifter indicator is mounted to the plastic through the original indicator opening with only minor mods.

here is the finished product:
