Hey guys, got the engine put back together, loaded it with oil. It is on the engine stand, started to prime yet oil only comes out on Drivers side. Oil will not come to passanger side???
The sope of thing: The engine is tilted a little bit forward on engine stand. New pump, new lifters, new spings, new oil pan.
You will not get oil through all push rods with the motor not running. If you rotate the motor it will go through the other push rods . Anyway you are getting flow to the front cam bearing and that is all you need to lub until you start the motor
What are you priming it with? You have to use the correct priming tool on the newer blocks in order to get oil to both sides. You need a primer with the bushing to pressurize the valve train. The older primers will only oil one side of the newer engines.
From: In the shop most of the time,,, And it BEER TIME somewhere
If you are using a oil pump primer that is just the rod and not like the body of a distributor, It will not oil both sides. I use an old distributor body, grind off the gears and cut down the body. The way the oil passeges are, the oil is pushed from one side of the block to the other in the distributor boss of the block. PM me for more info.
Priming takes time. I too use an old modified distributor but it tends to overheat the drill so I do it in stages. I pime for a while, turn the crank a little etc etc.. Eventually all ALL pushrods start dripping oil. Some are very slow but by being patient, turning the engine and running the drill all the valve train will start dripping oil.

This has got to be what it is. We are using the rod type primer on the original '82 block. We have turned the crank while running primer.
Thanks

BTW, this is my first try at doing such engine work, just wanting to be sure I do not do anything stupid, so I am checking everything twice!
