Default Broken speedo needle on a 68"

My Speedo needle is broken, and I have a new needle.

Is it possible for some without a PhD to replace it, and do I need some special tools or something??

Thanks / Claus

You're in for a treat. You CAN do it yourself, but it's gonna be a tough road.

First, if you haven't done this already, you have to remove that driver's side knee pad. To do this you'll want to loosen the steering column bolts and drop it out of the way. You'll have to work it slow and easy, but you'll get that pad loose. It's best if you can get under it first and remove the speedo cable and as much of the wiring as you can reach.

Once you get the pad down, you'll have to remove the speedo from the back. It's pretty easy, and help on with a few fasteners. Once off, it'll come right out. Now, you will see how to disassemble the case, and get to the face of the speedo.

This is where it gets tricky. You'll want to get the old needle off without harming the painted surface under it. I found that a crab meat fork worked pretty good. It had wide teeth, great for sliding under the head and around the shaft. I would slide a thin plastic or something under the fork when it's slid under the needle head so you don't scratch the face.

Once under, just pry up easily, an you should see the needle head start to lift off of the shaft.

Install is much easier. Just gently push the needle down on the shaft, and reinstall everything the way it came off.

You'll have to remove the fasteners that hold the knee pad up to the upper dash pad, and it'll help if it's pushed up a little, butt hat's not hard to do. I figured you'd figure that out while trying to wrestle that dash pad out.

[QUOTE=Durango_boy;1558413161]To do this you'll want to loosen the steering column bolts and drop it out of the way[QUOTE]

I have lossen the 2 bolts underneeth the dash, but I cant move the steering column ?!?!?

I have allso lossen all the plastic around the steering colum, removed the screws in the upper dash so I can twist it a littel bit so I can get the front of the dash a little bit out, and I have loosen the odometer zero bottom, and the small screws between the speedo and the little L shape metal plate under neeth..

What to do next? Anybody that have a few pics from the "operation" ??

Thanks

Did you unscrew the upper dash pad and lift it up a bit? Also, make sure everything behind the panel is disconnected. The speedo cable is very short and will hold the whole thing in there.
