I have AFR 195 heads and notice the intake gasket 1205 matches the heads pretty good but the radius of the heads sticks out past the gasket radius. I would hate to have to buy another smaller opening gasket. Will it hurt the flow if around .050 of the head radius (4 of them) is causing a step? Is this common? Should I blend/port the radius on the heads? The intake has already been perfectly ported to the gasket. The sides top and bottom match up fine. Thanks.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Intake Port Gasket 1.280'' x 2.090'' w/ 3/8'' radius ( Felpro 1205 )
Important: Do not port match your intake manifold to this Fel-Pro gasket, as they do not exactly fit AFR heads.
Dunno what that means but I wouldn't worry about, the odd the intake ports are going to match up exactly to your head ports aren't good anyway once you bolt the intake on because there is always some misalignment, you will always have a slight step one way or the other unless you get it proffessionally done.....like I did and they made it worse
I think AFR is just covering their behinds with that statement. I've already lined up correctly the intake and heads and gaskets so there is no guess work with alignment.
After thinking about the AFR statement I'm pretty sure they know that the head port radius dont match the gasket radius. So they dont want people doing what I did which is port the intake perfectly to the gasket leaving no room for error to account for the head radius. Also that means many would have to touch up the head to make it work perfect like this case.
