Hey guys, just saw a pic of a C2 with the pipes comin out of the 'gills' or vents on the front quarters. Then running down to the standard side pipe location. I was thinkin this would look great on my 72. Would the heat from the pipes melt the paint between the vents and the floor?
Actually i havent even looked in the engine bay to see if it can be plumbed that way...
That C2 was a special "one off" for Harley Earl and it had mucho special stuff in it including custom fabricated pipes, exhaust system, side pipe covers, interior etc. Really a great looking car. Unfortunately you better have a big wallet and a great head for creativity to do something that doesn't look like Bubba did it.
Nono..u got it wrong. The pipes come thru the vents but still run the full distance to the rear wheel arch. Just like normal side pipes, but u get to see the 4 primaries exiting the vent. My vette is low and I love side pipes but they wont fit under my car (without clearance probs). Only downside is burning people as the walk by the vette..lol..would be great fun at a shopping mall car park!
My 71 had side pipes exiting through the vents when a previous owner had it.... unfortunatley they are no longer on the car. They were custom made of course and I dont know if they caused paint problems...
I am still trying to track down some photo's of the car with the side pipes on as it was featured in a Street machine magazine as a cover car in the early 80's with Hillborn Injection and heaps of other goodies. I will post it when I can get the mag.....or picks.
