I believe that there were 2 different types of rear window trays but the chane occurred sometime in the 70 model run. I read that somewhere but I don't know how true it is. I just know that I bought a later model tray with a button type latch that was wrong for my so so I had to get an older one to fit with the drop down latch.
Will a late 1969 rear window storage tray fit my early production 1969 coupe? What is the difference?
The assembly manual shows a change in the tray about Feb 1969.
I don't know what the change was, but it may have been the front reinforcement bar. In 1968, the reinforcement bar was located on the bottom portion of the tray. The final '69 tray had the reinforcement bar located on the top of the tray. I suspect the shape and configuration of the bar also changed.
In 1968, part number was 3938099
Early 1969 was 3954528
Later 1969 was 3972537
If you have the fiberboard tray, it will fit your early '69 coupe.
The later '70's plastic trays will fit width wise, but you have to make provisions for the length, as they are 4-6" (approx) shorter than the fiberboard. However, the plastic will not sag or bend as the fiberboard tends to do, especially when wet.
