I took my 69 out for a brief (5-6 mile) drive and began to experience the smoke in cabin/fog on windows. I figured it was the heater core and for now I'd just bypass it. However, when I got home, I noticed that I had what appeared (and felt like) engine oil that had dripped out of the floor vents. I'm stumped (which isn't hard at this point). Any ideas?
I agree, that seems to make the most sense. However, when I feel up inside of the vents, I get oil on my finger, which would seem to indicate that somehow oil is being drawn into the heater (shrug)
This is a real long shot, but maybe you have a head gasket leak, or worse, a crack in the block that is letting oil mix with coolant. THEN, maybe you have a heater core leak that is letting the mix into the vents. Either of those problems would be bad but both combined would really suck.
Check your coolant for signs of oil mixing in with the antifreeze. And good luck.
Antifreeze feels oily, (at least to me), so I wouldn't hit the panic button just yet. Unless there is some evidence of oil in the radiator, or in the oil itself, I think I'd want to clean the heater box out and do some digging.
