Changed distributor cap, rotor button, wires, plugs.
Checking coil last night...put my voltage leads on the positive and negative terminals of coil and turned the egnition switch to the star position...got 0.65 volt...Did I do this correctly??? Also took a ohms reading across both terminals and got 1.9 ohms. Took ohm reading at secondary and got 8.4kohms. Do I have a problem here???
When you say you are having a starting problem, can you be a little more specific? Is the engine turning over and not firing or is it just not turning over?
It fired once and idled after installing the new plugs. I pressed down on the number 8 cylinder wire at the distributor cap and the engine tried to cut off, when I released my finger, the engine kept on running. That gave me the idea to change my plugs. Note that I had been having problems before this.
I really don't know what would cause the engine to want to shut down by merely pushing on a plug wire. Is the cap on correctly? What about the points and respective wiring? (I assume you are working on your '70 and that you have a stock ignition.)
