New Gas Tank Question???

New Gas Tank Question???
Had to replace my gas tank, it wasn't the original, so I've bought a new one. Should I coat it with anything? I have access to a great product called ZRC. It is a Zinc Rich Compound. What should I do?

I wondered the same thing last year when I put my new one in. I decided to just leave it as is, but maybe the ZRC is a good idea. Mine's been garage-kept and so far, it looks as good this year as when it went in.

My car had a new tank in it when I bought it. While in the back replacing U-joints, I decided to paint it black. Not sure how old the tank was, it was still nice and silver looking but didn't want it to rust up on me, and its not like you can see much of it anyway with the spare tire there. As to the inside, I just put gas in there.

That's what I was thinking. I don't ever plan to drive it in the rain, but it happens. The tank I pulled out wasn't sprayed with anything, except on the bottom, there was some undercoating overspray. The spare tire carrier covers everything pretty well. I think I'll just install it as is.

Just an update
Not much interest here, eh?
Anyway, I finished the install last night. Since Corvette Central shipped the Anti-Squeek separately from everything else, it gave me extra time, so I sprayed the tank and straps with Rust-oleum Zinc Compund, just to be sure. Still silver, and protected.
Also, the fuel lines that CC sent, the line on the bottom(intake) was correct(3/8"). However, the vapor line they sent was also 3/8", when it should have been 1/4".
For all you early '69 owners, that's a good tip when prepping for the tank swap. Have a 1' pc. of 1/4" fuel line and clamps handy.
