I am going to look at a 1977 vette tomorrow as a possible project car- any advice on things I should look for? Basically the car obviously needs a new interior (carpet, seats, door panels, dash), paint job, and control arm bushings (according to the seller). Not driven in a couple of years. Said the frame is good save for two rust spots where someone welded 1/4 inch steel reinforcement. He is going to throw it on a lift for me to take a look. Car has 97K miles. For the good points, it has a new carb, new brake calipers, new glass top, new windshield. Also has factory original headers to side pipes. I am not a novice in rebuilding cars as a hobby, but the extent of my rebuilds are salvaged jeep wranglers, dodge trucks and 1980's firebirds. Just curious what things I should look for on a car of this age and condition. Seller wants 4900 by the way. Thanks for any advice. I currently own a 2006 Z06, but this car has been sitting at a garage near my house for a couple months and I drive by it every day- and I need a project!
Sounds like a pretty decent deal, just make sure you check the birdcage for rust and the rear kick-up's as well. Just so you know headers and sidepipes were not a factory option in 1977. These cars were only available as 2-1-2 with a cat, and plenty of smog devices. Any headers and side pipes were installed afterwards.
