what is the differnce between a L-48 and L-82 motor

L-82's had a forged bottom end. Also had a much better cam.

any exteral phisically difference,looks,etc

Nope don't believe so...they may have some sort of badge though. I'm not sure about that.

*higher lift cam shaft..
*Impact extruded pistons..
*Forged crankshaft with four bolt mains..
*Finned aluminum rocker covers..etc
*Larger valved cylinder heads..
