I'm kicking around installing a fire bottle. Not a portable, but a dedicated system with nozzles directed at the spots most likely to cook. Anyone have any more ideas? Like using AFFF instead of powder or Halon. And yes, I know Halon is not ozone friendly, but it's still out there and works really well.
Not to sound like a smarta$$, but why are you worried about catching on fire? If you take reasonable care of your car there's very little chance of fire. Just insure it appropriately & don't worry.
I think halon needs a closed area to work in as it displaces oxygen, any fire in a Vette is probably going to sart under the hood & there's too much airflow for halon.
I can't say that I'm really worried about it, but stuff happens. And my insurance guy would probably sleep better at night too. As far as the maintenance goes, there's probably not a hose on the car that's more than a year old. If it even starts looking a bit funny-- it's gone.
I put one on my 68 chevelle when I was a kid because I figured the car was so fast that it Must be a fire hazard. It was mostly fabbed from B52 and KC135 parts since I was in the air force at the time.
Seems it made the car a bit faster, LOL.
Only time I ever needed a fire ext on the road it was someone els' car, so turns out a portable would have been better.
Sorry to pinch your thread but whilst we are on the subject I want to mount a CO2 cylinder in my car rather than having it roll around the rear compartment. Should it be on the passenger of drivers side and where to locate it. Anyone have a pattern for a bracket please or know where I can buy one.
