Default Schematic for the Headlight Switch? Parking lights / dash lights not working

I was wondering if anyone had a large diagram of the headlight switch circuit handy? I have the small electrical diagram for my 82 but it's hard to read.

I'm having problems with my dash lights and parking lights not working and it's driving me nuts. Here are what I know so far if anyone has any ideas.

1. Fuses are good

2. Headlight switch is new

3. Headlights will come on just fine

4. No parking or dash lights

5. But if you bypass the switch and go straight into the wires coming off the switch w/ 12 volts they come on and work! (leads me to think the switch is bad) But....

6. I got another (new) switch and it does the same thing!

7. I can take a test meter and when applied to the switch the headlight shows activity when the **** is pulled all the way out, but no activity on the paking light terminals. Both switches do that, so it leads me to think thats normal and I need to look more into the wiring.

So is the paking light terminals supposed to trigger activity (like headlights) when pulled out or is there some funky wiring configuration I'm missing?

Thanks for the help

P.S. I did a search and no luck

I ended up taking my brand new headlight switch apart at least a dozen times trying to figure out the problem. Nothing made sense. I noticed that the parking light wire feed was seperate from the headlight feed (for some reason I thought the switch was fed from that single thick red 12 volt wire....thats how I was checking the switch.) I checked that wire (orange one) and it was still dead.

It runs back to the taillight 10 amp fuse under the dash. I checked it with a test light while still in place and it showed positive voltage on both sides, so the fuse was good. Hmmm.....thats's weird. I figured it was a loose connection behind the fuse box or the wire had a break in it going up to the switch.

I was just about to remove the fuse box and start cutting and splicing...then I thought "why not switch the fuse out with a new one before I start all this?"

So I did........bam everything started working!

The fuse was corroded just enough to still work when you visually checked it, and tested fine when inserted (using the exposed parts on the back of the fuse and a test light) but wasn't making the circuit connection.

At least it's working now!

So much for the theory that a fuse is either good or blown.

Default ref: interior light problem

i just bought a 68 corvette, and i have removed the dash. i am experiencing a similar situation to what you have described. my headlights work, however i have no dash lights above my steering column. were these the same lights that were not functioning for you? i just ordered a new light switch thinking it might be this. i appreciate the information on the taillight fuse. i would have never thought of that. if there is anything else that you might think of that migt help me i would appreciate the information.

On my '68 all my lights work but the front parking lights do not light when I pull the light switch to the first indent. All the other lights with the exception of the headlights turn on as they should. I checked the bulbs and they are the correct dual element bulbs. I am thinking maybe there is a wire not connected on the switch?? Any ideas?
