Default brake light question???

anyone know why my 68 corvettes brake lights stick sometimes and stay on when applied? Im not sure if its a spring or if there is a bolt or screw somewhere on the brake pedal that needs to be adjusted. Ive been through 2 batteries so far.......thanx

Sounds like it's just the switch on the brake pedal that needs adjusting or lubrication (or replacement)...

The simple test would be to move the brake pedal up and down with your hand and see when/if the brake lights go on. If they turn off when you pull up on the pedal, and then turn on when you let go of the pedal, then the switch is probably working ok but just needs to be adjusted. The 68 brakelight switch is a one year only (and corvette only I believe) part that is mounted pretty high up on the brake pedal under the dash. It is hard to get at. I am also not sure if it is adjustable. I was looking in the AIM and the service manual and can't find anything on the brakelight switch!

Looks like this (the one w/o the link). Screws in/out.

That's not a 68. I'll have to dig through my parts and post a picture of the 68 style.

If you find that you need a new switch, I believe that I can put you in touch with one. Send me a PM if needed.

Here's a 68 brake switch

I can't find my spare right now but I wanted to take it apart to see if it could be repaired.

Nice find War Bonnet,

Had I seen that I wouldn't have shown everyone how nasty looking my under dash is.

Ranyea,

This switch is a real bear to remove/install. Do yourself a favor and take you seat out and lie down with your feet in the rear compartment, your going to be there a while.

Correct, it's from my 71'. Should have stated that hope it didn't confuse.
